Electricity Competition

From 1 January 2005, all electricity customers consuming more than 50 megawatt hours (MWh) per annum, or 137 units per day on average, are eligible to choose and electricity retailer. As a guide, the consumption of 50 MWh per annum equates to an annual electricity bill of approximately $8,000 (depending on the tariff). Read more >>

Demand Management

Demand management is the use of financial incentives, education or other programs to modify the demand for energy. It can be designed to shift the peak load to another time of day, cut the peak load, or reduce the total load by increasing end use efficiency. Read more >>

Subsidies and Rebates

Underground Power Program


The Government of Western Australia has a long-term goal to have at least half the houses in Perth supplied by underground power by 2010, with a corresponding improvement in regional areas of the State. Read more >>

Rural Power Improvement Program

The Rural Power Improvement Program has been established to improve reliability of power in country areas of the South West Interconnected System.  The State and Western Power equally fund this $60 million five year targeted investment program. Read more >>

Power Price Equity for Permanent Caravan Park Residents

Caravan park residents who are not direct customers of Western Power do not have access to the uniform domestic tariff or Government funded energy rebates, which are the Supply Charge Rebate, Dependent Child Rebate and Seniors' Air Conditioning Rebate. Read more >> 

Licence Exemptions for residential on-selling of electricity

The Government of Western Australia has regulated the sale of electricity to permanent residents living in group housing situations.  The form of regulation is a conditional licence exemption. Read more >> 

Residential Air Conditioning

Electricity demand from residential air conditioning is increasing rapidly and is a significant part of peak electricity demand.
