Clean Energy

Cleaner energy refers to energy production and consumption that minimises carbon emissions and is compatible with sound environmental stewardship.

Cleaner energy can refer to improvements in:

  • end-use efficiency (for example, more efficient appliances, industrial processes and vehicles)
  • increased penetration of embedded or local distributed generation (e.g. photovoltaic cells) and commercial-scale renewable energy (for example wind and solar farms) and technologies which facilitate this penetration
  • technologies, other than renewable energy, which reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation
  • measures that offset high emission energy processing (LNG or power generation plant) or industrial activities such as carbon capture and storage and
  • activities that minimise energy losses in gas and electricity transportation infrastructure.
