About the Graduate Development Program

The Graduate Development Program is a 12 month placement designed to give Graduates experience in all aspects of energy policy including: markets & regulatory policy, sustainable energy development, energy reform and energy within industry & community.

The Office of Energy provides formal training during the program to help Graduates develop their knowledge of Government processes and frameworks such as: the Legislative Framework, Public Sector Policy Development, Finance & Budgeting among others.  In addition, Graduates will be networked with previous Graduate Development Officers and each Graduate will be paired with a mentor appealing to common interests.

Subject to successful completion of the development year and achievement of a high level of performance over that year, a Graduate may be offered a permanent position within the Office.

Graduate Profile

The Office of Energy recruits graduates from a variety of disciplines.  You will need to be enthusiastic, enjoy working in a team environment, have excellent communication and analytical skills, initiative, determination and adapt quickly in an environment of change.

Application Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply, Graduates must have completed or will complete in the year before the program commenced a degree, honours, or higher qualification in any of the following disciplines - economics, engineering, business, finance, environmental science, law, maths or other analytically focused discipline.  Successful applicants will need to have achieved consistently high academic results.


Career Opportunities

Graduates will be encouraged to remain with the Office of Energy, however they will also have opportunities to apply for other advertised positions across the WA public sector at the end of the program.  All promotions are based on merit.

Conditions of Service

Successful applicants will be employed initially on a 12 month fixed term contract under the terms and conditions applicable under the Public Service General Agreement 2006 with a starting salary of $48,409 per annum.
