The Office has a clear vision:
"reliable, sustainable and competitively priced energy for the benefit of all Western Australians."
Graduate Development Officers can help the Office of Energy realise that vision and develop a strong foundation for their career at the same time.
The Graduate Development Program is a 12-month placement designed to give graduates experience in all aspects of energy policy including: markets and regulatory policy, sustainable energy development, energy reform and energy within industry and community.
The Office of Energy provides formal training during the program to help graduates develop their knowledge of Government processes and frameworks such as: the Legislative Framework, Public Sector Policy Development, Finance and Budgeting among others. In addition, graduates will be networked with previous Graduate Development Officers. Each graduate will be paired with a mentor appealing to common interests.
Subject to successful completion of the development year and achievement of a high level of performance over that year, a graduate may be offered a permanent position within the Office of Energy.
The Office of Energy recruits graduates from a variety of disciplines. You will need to be enthusiastic, enjoy working in a team environment, have excellent communication and analytical skills, initiative, determination and adapt quickly in an environment of change.
To be eligible to apply, graduates must have completed or will complete in the year before the program commenced a degree, honours, or higher qualification in any of the following disciplines - economics, engineering, business, finance, environmental science, law, maths or other analytically focused discipline. Successful applicants will need to have achieved consistently high academic results.
Graduates will be encouraged to remain with the Office of Energy, however they will also have opportunities to apply for other advertised positions across the WA public sector at the end of the program. All promotions are based on merit.
Successful applicants will be employed initially on a 12-month fixed term contract under the terms and conditions applicable under the Public Service General Agreement 2008 with a starting salary of $53,291 per annum.
Applications for the 2010 program will close on Monday 10th August 2009 at 4pm (WST).
