Industry & Community Division

The Industry and Community Division of the Office of Energy has two primary purposes:

  • to provide high quality policy advice to Government relating to the way in which energy is used by and contributes to the sustainable well being of Western Australia people and industries; and
  • to implement specific Government energy policies effectively to facilitate the provision of energy to consumers.

The Division is headed by a Director and comprises two branches: the Community Branch and Industry Branch. The Division provides advice to the Government on State and national energy policy.

The Community Branch focuses on many consumer related issues, including:

  • opportunities for improving the provision of equitable and affordable power supply to disadvantaged sections of the community (eg remote communities, caravan park residents and residents of Aboriginal communities);
  • protection of energy consumers' rights;
  • availability of energy in regional towns, including gas and electricity; and
  • the retrospective undergrounding of power lines.

The Industry Branch provides policy advice on a diverse range of issues including:

  • the adequacy of energy supply and infrastructure;
  • energy emergency management;
  • Emissions trading scheme as it relates to energy supply and use;
  • the performance of the energy industry in Western Australia; and
  • the impacts of emerging energy trends and technologies.
