Government Business Function
Department of Mines and Petroleum

The Department of Mines and Petroleum has a stronger focus on the resources sector, maintaining a mining and petroleum regulatory role and incorporating the resources safety responsibilities from the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DoCEP).

Department of State Development

The Department of State Development provides a strong focus on strategic development of Western Australia, particularly major state development projects and strategic economic development policy. This department also incorporates the functions of the Office of Development Approvals Coordination, which was within the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Department of Commerce The Science and Innovation functions of the Department of Industry and Resources (DoIR) have been transfered to the Department of Commerce, which incorporates the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection. Functions that have been transfered from DoIR include Innovative Industries, Science and Enterprise and Aboriginal Economic Development.
Energy Safety

EnergySafety is responsible for the technical and safety regulation of all the electrical industry and most of the gas industry in Western Australia.

Economic Regulation Authority The Economic Regulation Authority is the independent economic regulator for Western Australia. It oversees regulation and licensing in the State for the gas, electricity, water and rail industries and inquires into matters referred to it by the State Government.
Independent Market Operator

The Independent Market Operator (IMO) is an independent statutory corporation and a key feature of the institutional arrangements of the SWIS Wholesale Electricity Market which is being implemented as part of the Government’s reforms of the State’s electricity sector.

Ministerial Council for Energy The Ministerial Council on Energy (MCE) was established by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) in 2001 to deliver the economic and environmental benefits for Australia from implementation of the COAG national energy policy framework.
National Emissions Trading Taskforce Australian State and Territory Governments established the National Emissions Trading Taskforce to develop a multi-jurisdictional emissions trading scheme for consideration by State and Territory Governments.

Alinta

Alinta is an Australian energy company with operations and investments in five states of Australia and New Zealand. It supplies WA with primarily gas, but also electricity for eligible consumers.

Griffin Energy

Griffin Energy Pty Ltd has been established with a view to providing sustainable, reliable and cost effective electricity to the Western Australian marketplace. It is estimated that Western Australia will require in excess of 1,700 Megawatts of new generating capacity over the next ten years.
Horizon Power Horizon Power services the Pilbara, Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and southern Goldfields (Esperance and Hopetoun) including about 28 towns and isolated communities. It is responsible for generating or procuring, distributing and selling electricity.

Perth Energy

As an independent power retailer in the SWIS, Perth Energy's business is to contribute positively to the deregulation of the electricity industry to improve market access to all participants.

Synergy

Synergy is the electricity retailed for customers in the Perth metropolitan area and the South West Interconnected System.

TransAlta Energy (Australia)

TransAlta is a power generation and wholesale marketing company.
Verve Energy Verve Energy generates electricity and owns and operates power stations in the South West Interconnected System, which extends from Kalbarri in the north, east to Kalgoorlie, and south to Albany.
Western Power Western Power is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient distribution and transmission of electricity in the South West Interconnected System.

Worsley Alumina is a minesite and refinery.

Landfill Gas and Power LGP generates renewable electricity from its four Perth based landfill gas fire power stations at Canning Vale, Kalamunda, Red Hill and Tamala Park and operates its own retail function.

Peak resources industry representative in Western Australia, leading the way in having the resources sector recognised as a highly valued and strongly supported member of the Western Australian community
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIWA) The largest peak business body in WA with a membership of almost 5,000 businesses in all sectors including resources, manufacturing, building and construction, agriculture, transport, communications, retail, hospitality, community services and finance.
Clean Energy Council Member based industry association representing the broader sustainable energy industry that covers renewables, waste-to-energy and gas-fired generation, as well as energy efficiency.
Energy Networks Association (ENA) Peak national body representing gas and electricity distribution businesses in Australia, comprising lower pressure gas pipes and lower voltage electricity lines that distribute from energy transmission systems directly to consumers.
Energy Retailers Association of Australia (ERAA) Independent association lobbying in the interests of gas and electricity retailers throughout the National Electricity Market and the National Gas Markets.
Energy Supply Association of Australia (ESAA) Provides Australian energy suppliers with a strong and effective voice in their relationship with government, regulatory bodies, the media, community organisations and business customer representative bodies.
