Gas Access Regime

The Office of Energy, on behalf of the Minister for Energy, monitors the application of and manages the amendment of the National Gas Access (WA) Act 2009 that implements the access portion of the National Gas Law (NGL). The National Gas Law is the national legislative framework regulating gas pipeline services. It has been developed by the Ministerial Council on Energy under the Australian Energy Market Agreement.

As well as managing amendments to the National Gas Law, the Office of Energy monitors the regulatory decision-making of the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) related to gas pipeline access. Details of these decisions are available at theĀ ERA website.

Submissions are prepared by the Office of Energy when appropriate to represent State policies or interests and the interests of energy consumers at large.

Aside from monitoring and making representations on regulatory filings, the Office advises the Minister on applications for revocations of pipeline coverage under the National Gas Law and recommendations made by the National Competition Council.
