Authorisation by the Coordinator of Energy is no longer required for new gas undertakings. Section 55 of the
which was given Royal Assent on 5 May 2006.
Any gas pipeline system operated at a pressure of 1.9 MPa and above requires a petroleum pipeline licence, granted under the provisions of the Petroleum Pipelines Act 1969, and administered by the Department of Mines and Petroleum.
Please note that the design, construction, operation and maintenance of gas facilities will need to comply with statutory technical and safety requirements of the Gas Standards Act 1972, as well as regulations under that Act, if applicable.

The responsibility for licensing the private sector supply of gas
(other than gas personnel) was transferred to the Economic Regulation
