

The Minister for Energy has established the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Electricity Supply to provide him with independent advice on the adequacy of electricity supply to consumers, particularly the reliability and quality of supply.
Latest News from the MAC
At its meeting held in November 2007 and chaired by Energy Minister Francis Logan, the Committee was provided with a representation on the Electricity Retail Market Review, which entails a detailed study of retail tariff arrangements, the introduction of full retail contestability in electricity and the roll out of smart meters. An issues paper has been released public comment, and is available on the Office of Energy website. The release of a Recommendation Paper for public consultation will occur in March 2008.

Background of the MAC
The first meeting of the Ministerial Advisory Committee was held on Thursday 21 December 2006. Meetings are held on a quarterly basis.

Expressions of interest were sought from electricity users with a diverse range of backgrounds and experience including metropolitan residential users; regional residential users and consumers receiving the State Energy Rebate.
Minister Francis Logan appointed the following residential users as members of the Committee:
Patricia Fallen, a Synergy customer from Rossmoyne;
Judy Pitman, a Horizon Power customer from Broome;
George Gallen, a Sunergy customer from Clarkson; and
Allan Henshaw, a Synergy customer from Toodyay.

Three business electricity users were invited to join the Committee by the Minister. They are:
These appointees will play a key role as consumers in providing direct feedback on electricity supply quality and reliability standards. The committee is expected to identify issues associated with standards of electricity supply, comment on the effectiveness of consumer protection mechanisms and advise on existing or emerging issues with electricity supply standards.
