These Wholesale Electricity Market Rules (WEM Rules) are established under the Electricity Industry (Wholesale Electricity Market) Regulations 2004.  The purpose of the WEM Rules is to govern the operation of the market for the wholesale supply of electricity in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).

The WEM Rules were initially established by the Minister for Energy on 1 October 2004, but have since been subject to a series of amendments.

A consolidated version of amended WEM Rules is available on the Independent Market Operator's (the "IMO") website together with details of any Rule Changes not included in the consolidated version - go to http://www.imowa.com.au.

The Independent Market Operator (the "IMO") is responsible for administration of the WEM Rules.
