The MOU provides information about the respective roles of the parties, how the parties will engage with one another and share information.

The MOU seeks to:

- ensure that the decision making and advisory processes of the parties in relation to the regulated industry are appropriately coordinated and better informed;

- provide for sharing information between the parties in the context of their respective roles in relation to the regulated industry;

- promote the adoption of a best practice approach to policy matters and administration of the licensing scheme; and

- assist in ensuring that the parties are in a position to better understand the policy issues associated with their administration of relevant industry codes, and their involvement in the regulatory oversight of reforms in the energy industry (gas and electricity), including the wholesale electricity market.

As a general principle, the parties are expected to advise each other and share relevant information in a timely manner, giving due consideration to legal/confidentiality requirements.
